Plus, the non-removable noise dampener reduces the report (noise) up to 52%, which means you won't spook game while hunting. But, just because the Whisper is modestly priced doesn't mean you give up anything in the accuracy department! You'll be hitting your targets and making one-shot kills time after time. We measured the cocking effort with the metal spring, and it was 35 lbs. (Gamo lists it at 30 lbs.).

Things I would have changed:The scope is clear and bright but seems only of marginal quality.. For the money, this gun deserves a better scope I think. The trigger is also marginal.. It needs improvement.
What others should know:I started my quest for a varmint exterminating air rifle with a Crosman 1077. It was fairly quiet but the accuracy was horrible and the power was weak. That Crosman is not even in the same league as the Whisper. The Whisper is not only quiet enough for backyard use, it's powerful enough to bring down problem groundhogs and raccoons with relative ease.
I shopped around extensively for the best price on the Whisper and the price from Pyramyd was the best I found. Their service was excellent and I received my Whisper only a couple days after ordering. I'm very pleased.

Things I would have changed:Why Gamo has not fixed their trigger issue is a real shame. Problem with rear sight coming louse and with adjustments, need a better type of rear sight some thing along the lines of a Williams sight would be great.
What others should know:Make sure you clean and check all screws for tightness, found a few louse esp the rear sight. Do not waste your time with the factory trigger, order out the GRTlll Mod. trigger at the same time you order any Gamo Rifle so they arrive at about the same time, takes less then 10 minutes to make the trigger swap and you "WILL BE" very pleased with the results. PA should buy out CDT's stock seeing he has gone into retirement and is no longer doing custom tune ups, still selling the GRTlll upgrade how ever. As for the NDS2 noise reduction device, it realy works, at least compaired to my RWS 34 Rifle. I could tell the difrence after several shots and getting what ever oil was in the air chamber out. After that it settled wight down, and with the spring model, all you hear is the recoil of the spring and the pellet hitting the target, the POP of the roud leaving the barrel is all but gone completely, so slight, that if you miss your target you would swear nothing came out of the barrel.

I have been up de-varminting the backyard from a bathroom window and the wife and kids in the livingroom downstairs are unaware that I've even fired it. Further, there was a time I used the back door in the room next to the kitchen and the wife was washing dishes and had no clue that I'd shot it. Seems to be pretty accurate, though I should spend a little more time sighting it in. I've only fired lead pellets from it so far but without issue.
Things I would have changed:The large sight on muzzle infringes on the scope view slightly at the bottom of the scope. It's not an issue with targeting, but it's noticable if you look for it. I've read a lot of complaints about the trigger and haven't found it to be an issue, it's a 2 stage for certain, but I can feel when I'm at the limit of the firing stage and it seems to respond well when I push it just a little past that.
What others should know:Scope comes unmounted, but was easy to mount and the covers for it are clear so you can shoot without even removing them if you'd like. All in all a very solid weapon for your money I believe.

What others should know:Ammo. Almost every weight and style shoots a different pattern. Buy the six pack of different weights before investing in large quanities. I found the Beeman Crow Magnum and the JSB Diablo Exact Heavy shoot identical at 50, 60 and 90 feet, consistantly hitting a dime sized bullseye after sighting in. The Beeman H&N Match wadcutter followed closely in accuracy. The PBA's , in the same gun, will shoot high, & right by 2-3 inches and the Beeman Kodiak Heavy shoots high, left, 2-3 inches. If sighted in with just PBA's, or the Kodiak, I'm sure the accuracy would improve for that pellet. I find it a pain to have to realign the scope for each weight and brand of pellet. In the future, I intend to stay with the Crow-Magnum pellet since it is both less expensive and the most accurate at the ranges I use.

I haven't mounted the scope but it seems to be decent for a air rifle. Pyramyd Air was a pleasure to deal with. Even arranged local pickup at there office quick and easy. I see no reason to shop anywhere else.
Things I would have changed:Rear sight setup is a single Fiber-Optic wire bent into both side of the wire is not cut clean it will produce a very dim sight, They did not leave any slack in the wire to repair. They really need to produce a specific manual for this gun.
What others should know:If you clean your gun... use a soda straw inserted in the "Sliencer" to help guide the cleaning patch through the baffles and clean from the muzzle.
My Whisper liked the heavy pellets. I would suggest a trigger update and the Gas-Ram option to make this gun perfect.

What others should know:My Whisper was not picky on ammo, i shot Benjamin Diabolo 14.3 gr, Beeman Crow-Magnum hollow-points, Gamo Hunter and almost any kind of pellets in my arsenal, except for the Gamo Magnum 15.89 gr., i got a couple of fliers at 40 ydrs. The Whisper prefers dome-type heavier grain pellets at longer distances.The Whisper is freakin' accurate !!!

All I could hear was the sound of the spring when I fired them. The scope is ok and I could hit the bulls eye at 20 yards fairly easy. But the trigger does tend to mess up my aim, I think I will replace it with a GRT III from Charlie Da Tuna . Overall I think I got a nice gun for the money. Pyramid Air handled the order well too.

I decided to try this for shooting in my back yard; my other gamos are much louder and makes my neighbors uncomfortable. When they see me shooting he Whisper they don't even look twice; they think it's a toy since on their end they barely hear anything.
Things I would have changed:Either include a much better scope or none at all and drop the price. I immediately replaced the stock scope (something I do with all my Gamo rifles) to a Center Point AO. I also purchased a GRT-III trigger even before ordering this rifle and installed it the day it came in.
What others should know:There seems to be a lot of confusion about this rifle's noise dampening qualities. If that's why you're considering this rifle, do some research here and at the various Gamo forums. The suppressor works as it should with subsonic lead ammo. Once you go supersonic (past the speed of sound) it will be loud as with any other rifle (airgun or not).
From the shooter's side of things, it won't be any quieter than other springers since your head is planted right against the rifle. If you have someone else shoot it (if possible have them shoot a different springer for comparison too) while you stand off to the side, you'll notice the difference in sound right away.
Allow yours to break in for at least a thousand rounds. Once the parts have worked themselves together enough, the Whisper will get much more smoother and the noise level of the powerplant a lot more easier on the ears.
One other thing to keep in mind - this is a pretty light rifle and the butt stock is hollow. Stuffing it with foam or anything else to help dampen the vibrations and add a little weight may help you in certain ways. Mine is particularly sensitive to the added weight of a heavy scope. I started with a scope that weighs 1.5lbs, but couldn't figure out why she was grouping irregularly until I switched off to a lighter scope (about 1lb or less). That made a world of difference. If you're having some issues, just be patient, read the forums, and try different things. You'll eventually get her to where you want her to be and have a blast with this rifle.

What others should know:Educate yourself on what to expect from the silencer/suppressor. Just like on a firearm, you cannot suppress the supersonic crack, and airguns just aren't that noisy at subsonic velocities.

Opening the brown box was the Gamo packaging complete with a multicolor striking advertisement of all the wonderful features the Whisper has to offer. After taking everything out and checking for damage, I quickly read the dismal instructions. Very generalized, not rifle specific and nearly useless. I then read over the scope instructions, which later I found out was the best part of the scope. I then made haste and set up my makeshift pellet trap that I devised just for this day when my new Gamo Whisper would arrive. (Essentially a hastily concocted cardboard box filled with old magazines taped shut and with computer generated and printed by me target sheets of Mini Bin Laden figures, bull-eyes of different sizes and black mini animals-oh what fun!)
I was using RWS Superdomes 8.3gr pellets. I chose these because it was the only good quality pellets my local store had. Matter of fact it was the only can of .177 pellets they had at all. Nevertheless, weighing my options, it was a good choice overall. I think 1000 fps rifles like the heavier weight pellets, but what do I know that I had not already read somewhere.
Now lets shoot this rifle. 1st thing I noticed was the easy cocking action. Next I noticed a ton of grease around the barrel opening, which I surgically wiped off. I then cleaned all residues away from the barrel openings and breech area. I though I read how it was so very important to keep oil away from those important areas and out of the barrel, but here was my brand new rifle chock full of the stuff? Not having a barrel-cleaning device, which at the time I had not purchased yet, I loaded up a superb RWS quality pellet. I stuck it into the barrel facing the proper way and noticed a nice tight fit with the rear cup area of the pellet fully flush with the barrel lip. Nice uniformity and exacting like fit. I closed up the break barrel, checking for looseness or play while rifle is cocked, finding none I took off the safety and prepared to fire. That's when the 1st problem came about. I have never used these fancy newfangled fiber-optic sights. I did not know what sight picture I was suppose to see. I have only used scopes or the old-fashioned V ramp adjustable rear and blade Bead front sight. So I activated the safety feature on the rifle and proceeded to re-study the Gamo instruction book. Not only did it not even mention having high quality fiber-optic sights on the rifle or how to use them, but also it said, "Your Gamo air rifle comes with the scope mounted and bore sighted." Which is not the case. So I shot at my little target the best I could. I shot twice, which at 15 yards was way off. I did notice a burnt oil smell immediately after firing both times. After the two quick shots and trying to toy with the sights I decided to forego that route until I know what I am doing and just put on the scope. I followed the long-winded pamphlet like instruction book, that again was generic and very basic (but complete in various languages!) The scope itself seemed a decent quality, mounted easily and made the rifle look mean and sinister. My pet name for the rifle is "Sinister Black." He heh
It took quite awhile to sight in the rifle; I was almost convinced the clicks did nothing as it took nearly 40 clicks to get on paper. I rechecked the scope install; the mount had the proper gaps, eye relief, was correctly aligned and facing the right way. If it was up to me I would have bought the rifle without the scope and put what I want on it at a later date. I like the A1 Optic Halo sight or the Aim Point reflex sight.
Shooting the rifle was fun. The rifle has a natural balance area right in front of the trigger(at least with the scope on) and has a little oblong bump that fits oh so nice down the natural middle groove of my palm. Kinda cool, like it was made for me. The shot is not loud at all, not even in the house. My Crosman 2100 Classic (BB 755fps) pumped up the max of 10 times was significantly louder. On the Whisper nearly no explosive air sound at all to the shooter. However there is quite a mechanical Thunk sound from the spring and compression. Still not loud at all. In my backyard while shooting neither my daughter in the family room 10 feet from me could not ever detect when I shot, nor my wife in the kitchen who was listening for it also. If I was to shoot in my garage with the door shut no one could even here it. The pellet hitting the target is the loudest part.
The horrible trigger everyone says that Gamos have, felt average to me, the 1st take in of the trigger is adjustable, where as I feel the 2nd part should be adjustable because of how lousy it feels. No crispness at all, slow steady pressure until it breaks, seemingly never the same way twice. Definitely a trigger insert or upgrade trigger replacement like everyone suggests would make this a much nicer rifle.
Overall I am very happy with the Whisper, seems about right for the price point, does as advertised and just looks mean to boot. Thanks for listening.

PBA pellets are great for rifles under 800fps but for the Whisper you should be using a heavy, standard lead pellet, upward of 10gr like the H&N .177 Barracuda Match 10.65gr. Heavy and very accurate pellet. Specifically designed for Field and Target shooting long distances. Especially made for strong rifles with high initial velocity........Not just my opinion. It's a fact!

The scope is a 3 X 9 and does not have an adjustable objective. So it is fuzzy at most ranges! I scoped it with a Beeman 4 X 12 X 40 AOE and it really helps in the accuracy department!
What others should know:This gun is as accurate as my Beeman R9 even with the horrible trigger. It also chronographs about 75 - 100 fps faster than the R9 with all pellets tried.
If Gamo put a rekord trigger on this and a decent scope it would be the BEST hunting/plinking/field target gun around!
I am not concerned about the synthetic stock nor the synthetic barrel shroud. For knocking about in the woods and fields it is perfect! And it really looks cool. As another reviewer said it really does look like a tactical sniper rifle!
It is already by far my favorite shooting springer! It won that place from the R9 because of the easier cocking force, amazing accuracy, quietness, greater power and all around better fit and lighter weight for this 61 year old arthritic body. Including the scope and trigger kit it is still less than half the price of the Beeman R9 and scope! It is great fun to shoot. Buy it and add the GTX mod or blade for $10 - $35 and a good scope and enjoy!

Things I liked:I've only had this gun for a couple of weeks, but so far I like it. The sight is nice and easy to adjust for better targeting. This is my first break barrel so it takes some getting used to. At 12 yards I can hit within a half dollar with the right ammo. I have not tried a further distance yet. I recommend RWS ammo, especially Super-H point. PBA is not accurate.
Things I would have changed:When you shoot the kick knocks your focus off so you can not continue looking through the scope to see the target get hit. It would be nice if the kick were less.
This is a single shot gun so if you are looking for repeating action go elsewhere.
The noise dampener seems to not make any difference- the gun is pretty loud. One shot and the critters usually fly away or run off, but if you are good, they fall.
What others should know:Take advantage of the free shipping over $149 and load up on ammo, cleaning kit, cleaning pellets, targets, etc. Pyramid was excellent to work with and delivered my gun right on time. I plan to buy a Crosman 1077 repeater to go along with this gun. It's good to have a variety of airguns to shoot.

What others should know:The packing of this item was terrible. Both outer and inside Gammo boxes had been opened. The inside box was flopping around inside the outer box. Inside Gamo box was held together with scotch tape, which had opened. Customer service said Gamo boxes were opened for accuracy of contents. That's great and appreciated, but at least some sort of notification on the box would have been appropriate. Everything was in the Gamo box inside. A little better TLC with the shipping would be nice.

It must be high end pellets or nothing at all...
Mine seems to like Crosman Premier hallow points and Gamo PBA Raptors the best, giving me solid dime groups @ 40+ yards....
Cheaper ammo such as Daisy's Precision Max lineup tend to go flying way off target, even at just 30 yards...
This rifle is very quiet for a springer, but only when using subsonic pellets...
When I shoot lead, all i hear is the recoil of the spring and the sound of the target getting hit...
On the other hand, when shooting pellets that go supersonic such as Gamo PBA Raptors, the silencer does little if anything to reduce noise...
In fact, the crack of going supersonic is so loud, you'd think you're shooting an unsilenced .22!!

What others should know:muzzle break/muffler does largely eliminate "crack" of pellet discharge, but spring power plant is very noisy, so overall is not as quiet as I'd hoped. an older Diana spring air gun also rated at 1000fps, used with heavy .177 pellets, is not significantly louder balancing muzzle "crack" vs. powerplant "scrape/bong".

Things I liked:It is very accurate, powerful and light weight. The open sites are excellent (upgraded from my Shadow 1000) and the stock is very comfortable. My whisper is a real shooter and I would higly recommend this gun. It has the tightest "chamber" or breech of any of my Gamo rifles (4 w/the whisper) I suspect that this is part of what contributes to the high level of accuracy. Crosman Premiers and RWS Superdomes both begin to engage the rifling at the pellet head when 1/2 way inserted. It also shoots Gamo Raptors better (more accuratly)than any gun I own. Out of the box I was getting 910 fps on the Premiers and 1110 fps on the raptors over my Alpha Chrony. Superdomes and Premiers deliver incredible groups and Raptors are actually falling in to the "usable" range which is not true for that pellet in many of my airguns. Plus, the noise reduction device is both very cool and quite functional. One does have to understand how spring guns make noise or you may be dissapointed.
In a springer noise is generated by; 1.) The mechanical action (spring & piston noise) which on Gamo's tends to grow quiter with use. 2.) Via muzzle blast (which is the area the Integrated noise dampener effects, as well as 3.) The sonic boom generated by pellets which reach supersonic or "hyper"sonic speeds and 4.) the impact of the pellet agains the target it strikes. Firing the rifle in out of the box, in my garage and into my steel 22 rimfire trap, I did percieve a good bit of noise. The stock transmits the action noise to the bones in my ear and the steel trap rings quite loudly when struck. As the action has begun to break-in the spring noise is going down. A helper standing next to me described it as much quiter than the Viper we were using for comparison but louder than the Gamo Recon we were also comparing it to. When shooting it from a prone position off of a carpet mat and into a wooden post off of our deck it was percieved by the shooter and observer both as incredibly quite. I also notice the action noise varies with different pellets. Anyway Gamo's noise reducing device gives those of us in the US an opportunity to explore the possibilities for noise reduction in springers that our friends in Europe hace enjoyed for some time. This powerful, accurate and lightweight rifle is an excellent ( and moderatly priced) way of doing that. However it is important to remember that a "silencer" does not make a spring gun silent.
Things I would have changed:It comes with the infamous gamo trigger, which is not excellent but does improve with time and can be easily modified.
What others should know:Might want to read the Pyramyd blog on noise in airguns or some of my comments about noise above to make sure that your expectations of sound reduction are accurate.

What others should know:I'm not to happy with the newly designed muzzle or the so called 60% noise dampener/sound reducer.
For outdoor shooting or hunting maybe quiet but if you want to shoot pigeons nesting on the roof of your house or squirrels in your back yard, you'll be in trouble because neighbors may call the cops. Not good for urban areas with neighbors next to you.
With Beeman Crow Magnum pellets there is no noticeable difference in sound.
I had helpers in front (off to one side), beside, and behind me, all agreed......no noticeable difference in sound.
With the Gamo Raptor pellets, it popped like a new gun dieseling.
The muzzle break will reduce the sound of the pellet but only if you are planning on using only pba ammo.
Just a new and re-designed GAMO model with the same powerplant as the CFX, Shadow and Hunter series and probably the same accuracy as them.
Another gimmick with no redeeming factors, except maybe for increased sales by Gamo.
